At Everyday Explorers, our curriculum is built on love, care and a deep understanding of child development.
Our Curriculum
We believe that the experiences children have between birth and five shape their future learning, wellbeing and life choices. That’s why our curriculum is designed to nurture the whole child — emotionally, socially, physically and cognitively — ensuring every child feels secure, valued and ready to learn.
Our approach is rooted in the Development Matters framework and delivered through a balance of child‑led exploration and thoughtful adult guidance. Each child is supported by a named Early Years Professional (EYP) who builds a trusting relationship with them and their family, ensuring their individual needs, interests and strengths are understood and celebrated.
We hold high expectations for every child, recognising that all children are powerful learners. With the right support, encouragement and opportunities, every child can make progress and flourish. We value every achievement — big or small — and use these moments to build confidence, resilience, self‑efficacy and a strong sense of self‑worth.
The seven areas of learning
Our curriculum supports development across all seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS):
There are 3 Prime Areas and these form the essential foundations for all future learning:
-
Communication and Language - Developing rich language, active listening, conversation skills and a love of communication.
-
Physical Development - Supporting gross and fine motor skills, coordination, self‑care, and healthy habits.
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development - Building confidence, emotional understanding, secure relationships, independence and resilience.
There are 4 Specific Areas and these broaden and deepen children’s learning experiences:
-
Literacy - Encouraging early reading, mark‑making, phonological awareness and a love of stories.
-
Mathematics - Exploring number, pattern, shape, space and problem‑solving through meaningful play.
-
Understanding the World - Developing curiosity about people, communities, nature, technology and the wider world.
-
Expressive Arts and Design - Inspiring creativity, imagination, music, movement, art and design.
How we promote learning
We use the Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning to shape every child’s journey:
-
Playing and Exploring – children investigate, experiment and ‘have a go’
-
Active Learning – children stay focused, keep trying and enjoy achieving
-
Creating and Thinking Critically – children develop ideas, make connections and solve problems
These characteristics help children become confident, curious and independent learners who embrace challenges and take pride in their progress.
A curriculum that responds to each child
Our curriculum is flexible, responsive and shaped by children’s interests. We maximise spontaneous learning opportunities and extend them through carefully planned experiences. Regular, purposeful assessments help us understand what children know, what they are ready for next, and how best to support them — always with the question: “How will this help this child?”
We ensure learning is embedded securely before introducing new challenges, giving children the time and space to master skills through play, repetition and exploration.
An enabling environment
Our environment is safe, accessible and thoughtfully designed to support independence, choice and responsibility. It is enriched with language, diverse resources and meaningful experiences that help children develop a strong sense of identity, express their likes and dislikes, and build positive relationships.
Consistent routines and warm relationships help children feel secure, manage change confidently and develop emotional intelligence and social skills.
A curriculum rooted in love, care and possibility
Above all, our curriculum is driven by the belief that children thrive when they are loved, cared for and surrounded by people who truly want the best for them. By celebrating each child’s individuality and nurturing their natural curiosity, we inspire them to explore, discover and succeed — preparing them not just for school, but for life.
